Kembalinya “Miss Jo” ke Angkasa :
(“Miss Jo” Returns to the Sky)

Lancashire, Inggris, tiga dekade setelah perang Vietnam.

"Have you ever felt like you live in the airport?" Tom Hanks' character was asked in Steven Spielberg's movie, The Terminal.

Just like Hanks' character, many travellers -- businesspeople, aviators, journalists -- have felt at times that airports were their homes. But for Alfred Mehran, born Mehran Karimi Nasseri, the real "Terminal man" who inspired Spielberg, living in terminal is no movie.

Mehran has been a permanent resident at Paris Charles de Gaulle international airport since 1988, as he is not a citizen of any nation in the world.

DANGER BY THE PEN

The Jakarta Post, May 29, 2005

“If you are concern with your safety, I can arrange a guard for you. Just tell me at least two days before you go,” said Tonette Orejas on the phone.

I called her asking information on how to go to Dingalan, a small town in Aurora Province, in the main Luzon Island of Philippines. The coastal town 100 kilometres north eastern of Manila suffered terrible flash floods and landslide last year. But what Orejas concern about was not the natural disasters. A day before I called her, a journalist was killed there.
